Design guidelines for laser-cut sheet metal parts.

Here you'll find important specifications on tolerances, contours and hole diameters for designing laser-cut sheet metal parts.

1. Tolerances

Our sheet metal parts are subject to general tolerances per DIN 6930-2-m. For specific requirements, please contact our Helpdesk.

2. Minimum contours

Although laser cutting is very precise, there are limits where too much energy input on a small area fails to achieve the desired quality. These limits concern the geometries that can be cut from the material. Contours that are too fine or too close together can cause problems such as burn-through of webs, inaccurate cuts or insufficient quality due to excessive energy input on a small area. 3. Smallest hole diameter

The minimum hole diameter depends on the material properties and the machining technology used. If the hole diameter is too small, this hole cannot be machined with the laser. However, our automatic feasibility analysis immediately detects holes that are too small. The following table shows the smallest possible hole diameters per region:
